Intel CTL 2go Convertible Classmate PC NL2 Netbook Officially Unveiled
Intel has officially unveiled the CTL 2go Convertible Classmate PC NL2 netbook and while it was designed for children and the education market there may be some grown up kids eying the device as well. To begin with, the Convertible Classmate PC is a netbook at heart sharing many of the ‘netbook standard’ of specs, but that is not necessarily where it stops.

Just to start, you have a 10 inch display with a 1024 x 600 screen resolution, however that 10 inch display is a resistive touchscreen that will work with both finger and stylus input. Other specs include a water resistant keyboard and touchpad, 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, an accelerometer, two USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot and VGA out as well as a built-in (and retractable) carrying handle. And coming as little surprise, the netbook will come sporting an Intel processor, or more specifically it will have a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor.

In terms of storage you can opt for either a 2.5 inch 160GB hard drive or 32GB SSD. Other options include support for GPS, 3G and WiMAX built-in or an anti-microbial keyboard to help and keep the germs from spreading. Which considering this is aimed at the classroom may be better served as a standard option.
Another nice feature comes in the form of dual audio jacks, which means two kids can plug in and listen with headphones, which should help to make sharing in the classroom a little easier. As for battery life, the Convertible Classmate PC NL2 has a 4 cell battery that is said to be able to offer up to 4.8 hours of run time or an optional 6 cell that should give up to 8.5 hours.
Finally, the operating system will be either the custom Linux build from Intel or a choice between Windows 7 or XP. Those interested can expect to pay a starting price of $499 for the Linux models with a Windows model coming in at about $599.
