New iPhone Navigation App Available Soon: Google Maps Navigation for iPhone
Just the other day we were telling you how Google’s free turn-by-turn navigation system, Google Maps Navigation, will be available in the UK and now it looks like Google is getting ready to move to the next level.

No, I am not about to tell you that Google Maps Navigation is going to be available for free to Android users in other markets, although that will happen in the foreseeable future and we’re going to surely be there to cover it, but I’ll tell you how Google’s navigation tool is heading to Apple’s iPhone.
Is that really going to happen? Will Apple allow such an app in the App Store after rejecting Google’s Google Voice a long time ago?
Apparently Google has officially confirmed in London that Google Maps Navigation is going to be offered free of charge to other mobile platforms than Android, including iPhone OS.
Google will have to come up with a Google Maps Navigation app for the App Store which will have to be approved by Apple before iPhone users will be able to use Google’s interesting navigation tool. In case it does get approved the app will surely become a hit choice for iPhone owners in the USA, UK and Ireland for now, and all the other paid apps in the App Store will probably have their prices adjusted to match Google’s free app. Which means Apple will make less money off those apps…
In case Apple will decide to ignore the app, Google will probably have to make a special, browser-based, Google Maps Navigation app for the iPhone which should also be quite a useful asset for iPhone owners.
On the same note we’ll just have to remind you that Apple has purchased a little company called PlaceBase that deals with maps and navigation and we’re pretty sure it will use it to create some navigation app of its own for the iPhone in the future.
Of course we’re just making scenarios at this point as there are no clear indications as to where Google is going with its Google Maps Navigation app right now. We have no arrival dates set for a potential iPhone app and we’d love to hear more about this matter both from Mountain View and Cupertino.
