HTC & Huawei Back Away From Bidding On Palm
Palm just cannot catch a break here lately, and we are once again covering doom and gloom related Palm news. This latest report suggests that two of the once interested parties have since decided again moving forward with a purchase. The companies are HTC and Huawei, and given some of their comments we are beginning to wonder just how bad off Palm really is.

Lets start with HTC;
“There just weren’t enough synergies to take the deal forward,” said the source, who declined to be identified because the talks were private.
Of course, this decision came after HTC had reviewed Palm’s books. Which could lead one to speculate that things are far worse off than many would think.
Then on the other hand we have Huawei, or more accurately we had Huawei. Yup, they have also decided against moving forward with placing a bid for the struggling Palm.
And then to add just a little bit of a silver lining on this dark cloud, it looks like there is still a possibility that Lenovo will swoop in. And if you ask me, if anyone is going to make the purchase, I am hoping for them. According to the most recent report in Reuters;
“Investment banking sources said they had heard that Lenovo is looking into a possible bid for Palm, but did not have any further details.”
But even that does not sound all that hopeful, and in the end it is starting to look like Palm is going to need to either succeed or fail on their own.
Touching just for a moment on why I think Lenovo would be a good match — simple, the previous purchase of the ThinkPad line. Lenovo seems to have managed to take over the ThinkPad line and keep it intact. I would even venture to say that buying a ThinkPad would bring just as much as it would have a few years back when it was still owned by IBM. That could potentially mean Lenovo would be able to do the same with webOS. Or more important is that they could potentially keep the Pre and Pre Plus as well as the Pixi and Pixi Plus going, and hopefully make them stronger. But in the end that is just speculation based on one event.
