Google Nexus One to Offer Wi-Fi n After All?
Here’s a little piece of news, and a little video (just below the break) that puzzles me. I thought that among some of the things the Google Nexus One couldn’t do was to offer you 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity. But now it looks it can do it. Well, sorta…

I had to go back to the end of time, and by that I mean January 2010, to bring proof that the Google Nexus One can’t do Wi-Fi n. Not that we wanted it to do anything like that in the first place. We wanted it to do proper 3G like any other hot Android smartphone out there. That hasn’t happen, or hasn’t happened for most, or hasn’t happened for most continuously.
I’m sure you all know that Google issued out a public warning saying that it will stop trying to figure out how to fix for good those 3G issues. Yes, Google did have patches that were supposed to fix it but, no, they didn’t quite solve the problem. So Google simply decided to stop trying and advised anyone experiencing any problems to simply change their location or move the handset around. That’s a really technical solution!
And now we find out that there’s Wi-Fi n after all? Again, Wi-Fi n might not be something that we need in our current phones. Maybe future phones that are going to get better batteries ready to handle such connection standards will come with 802.11n Wi-Fi capabilities on board. But do we want the Google Nexus One, an already crippled device, at least for some, have to face 802.11n-related problems?
While not official, it looks that Broadcom and Google have new drivers for the Google Nexus One that would activate that dormant 802.11n wireless chipset. And it’s Android 2.2 or Froyo the firmware you need to make the Google Nexus One surf the Internet at Wi-Fi n speeds.
Let’s just all hope that Wi-Fi n will work flawlessly on the Nexus One. I’d really hate to see this Android baby go through any more troubles as it is.
