Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Upgrade Set for September? [X10 Android Update Reportedly to Include Multitouch Functionality Despite Previously Cited 'Hardware Issues']

We reported back in February, having spoken with Sony Ericsson having gained some serious hands on time with the Xperia X10, that the X10, which packs Android 1.6, would be getting an OS upgrade to newer iteration of Android (namely Android 2.1) post release and now, according to reports, it seems that the Xperia X10 Android upgrade, which will also bring mulittouch functionality to the X10, could be set to hit from September.

Interestingly, whilst the report hinting that the update will include mulitouch functionality is as yet unsubstantiated, it appears that, should the report be believed, SE are now trying to distance themselves from previous comments made by Rikard Skogberg (as reported here) that bringing mulittouch to the X10 was an issue due not only to software limitations but also to hardware issues – the latter being od specific concern. Of course, at this juncture we’re yet to hear official word from SE concerning mulittouch coming to the X10 so we’d advise that, like us, you treat this as mere speculation at this stage.

So, if you’re packing an X10 you have this ‘very big update’, which is believed (with good reason based on our previous interactions with SE) to be the promised Android 2.1 update, to look forward to which may, or may not, see your handset gain mulittouch functionality. Needless to say, we hope SE will offer some confirmation here and, should they do so, we’ll ensure we offer you a heads up asap.

The X10 is a fresh piece of kit, it runs rings round the 3GS in my opinion. I’ve had mine since about 2 days after it was in the shops and i’ve had no problems with it, 1ghz for the win :)

Wanting to join the Android train, I recently gave up my-much loved BB Bold and purchased the SE Xperia, X-10. I hope I did not make a huge mistake.

At first I thought I had made a good decision, but as time goes on,more and ore issues keep popping up. Even though I was assured at the time of purchase that the SE would “voice dial” it will not! After several calls to SE technical services to get information about the voice dialing issue, I am rudely told, they knew it wouldn’t voice dial, but released the phone regardless. Of course, I put up a fuss about this, but the SE rep couldn’t care less. Told me it would be fixed with the coming firmware update
but couldn’t confirm with certainty when that would be other than before the end of October 2010, we still wait for this upgrade. now when I call SE tech support, I’m rudely told: “why don’t you search for a market app to use until you get your upgrade?” like I’m a compete fool. I guess, I should have told him where to stuff his non-performing equipment and rude tech reps like himself? Tell him to go look for an app to do this for him. Using this handset exactly like I used my blackberry, I can’t get through the day on a fully charged battery. SE’s tech suggestion: turn the unit of for a few minutes every day? Yeah, just a great way to miss closing a few juicy deals per year! Are they out of their Fu**king minds?

I’ve had this phone for around 6months. It’s just “ok.” You can barely hear on it and it freezes all the time. the battery life is short. In tha race to be like the iPhone this phone get left in the dust. I give it a 6.5 outta 10
