Android 2.2 To Feature Updated Android Market?

Android OS 2.2 Froyo Rumored To Feature Updated Market With "Automatic Updating" For Apps

Details are slowly beginning to leak out as to what we can expect in terms of Android 2.2, which is still going by the code name of Froyo. So far what we are finding out is coming slowly, but this first change takes place in the Market and should make Android users with lots of apps very happy.

If you are an Android user and have more than a few apps installed, you have likely sat and taken care of the update process, which at the time is slow because they all need to be done on a one by one basis. Anyway, this new feature is expected to come with Android 2.2 and makes it look like you will be able to check to “allow automatic updating.”

The details on this latest little bit comes by way a single screenshot from what was reported as a T-Mobile myTouch 3G running Android 2.2. Of course, playing both sides here I should remind that these types of images can be, and have been faked in the past. That said, the image does seem like it is the real deal, and if nothing else I would like to believe it.

But getting back to the ability to automatically update your apps. The nice part here is that is seems to imply that each app will have that checkbox to allow automatic updates. The nice part about doing this on an app by app basis is that you can control the updates for your ‘cannot live without’ apps. You know, just in case the updated version is worse off, or will not run on your handset. Personally I have a few of those and always wait to update for at least a few days, at least until I see if I find any reports of issues.

The other issue that I can see is if a free (as in no money and no-ads) app decides to toss in some ads. This way you will be able to keep the latest, and ad-free version installed. But in the end, I can see many people checking this for each app just because the Android app update process is pretty painful. At this point I would like to see this implemented as well as an update all button added.
