iPhone 4G/HD Confirmed by AT&T During Quarterly Report

AT&T Hints at June iPhone 4G Release & Dubs It An “Exicting Product Refresh”

We’re closing in fast on May but we have no idea when the next-gen iPhone, also dubbed as the iPhone 4G/HD, will arrive. Rumors say that Apple has already scheduled WWDC 2010 for June but Cupertino hasn’t announced the event yet. Was it too busy with a certain missing unit which was conveniently dropped in a bar?

Apple has announced yesterday its recent quarterly earnings and the company had an impressive record quarter. The iPhone is definitely one of its main money-makers and we expect the iPhone 4G to be equally profitable especially since it will bring us some of the features we were looking for since the iPhone was launched.

But it’s not only Apple that’s making nice money off the iPhone as so do worldwide carriers that sell the device. Among those AT&T is clearly the number one iPhone seller as the mobile operator has activated 2.7 million iPhones this last quarter. That’s out of the total of 8.7 million iPhones Apple sold this quarter which means that AT&T will surely hate the day the Verizon iPhone gets official.

While AT&T reported solid numbers during its earnings conference call, our interest was piqued by the fact that the carrier confirmed the arrival date of the next-gen iPhone.

When answering to questions related to the arrival of the new iPhone, AT&T said that “product refreshes we’re excited about” are coming this quarter and we all know this quarter ends in June.

Those “exciting refreshes” or better said refresh, can only be the iPhone 4G which is expected to arrive at some point in June according to various sources. This goes to prove an earlier rumor we’ve covered which was saying that AT&T won’t let its employees take any vacations this June, just like it did every time a new iPhone came to town.

We’ll be waiting for Apple to announce the official dates of WWDC 2010 then, as it seems that this year Cupertino is taking it time with this particular announcement. On a different note, it will be really interesting to see this particular Steve Jobs keynote particular after the whole bar-related adventure.

I heard that this summer around the release of the 4G, they will also release a software update for the 3Gs enabling video and other new features found on the 4G. I think its quite possible that the “refresher” they’re referring to could only be referencing an software update and not the release of the 4G which verizon seems pretty confident about.
