Google Maps Navigation Now Available For UK Android Users

Google Maps Navigation 4.1.1 Beta For Android Updated, Now Available In The UK

Google has quietly rolled out an update for Google Maps Navigation Beta app, and this latest release brings the version to 4.1.1. But perhaps a little more important is that the app is now in the Market and available for those in the UK. As for which Android users can take advantage of the free turn by turn directions, it looks like the compatibility will be the same as what we have here in the US, which is devices running Android OS 1.6 and 2.x or later.

Features are the same as what we saw with the US release, which coincidentally came available back in April and includes both 2D and 3D maps, street view, traffic view, satellite view and the ability to “search in plain English” which really means that you can search without having to know the full address. In this case you can just type a business name, or even a business type and you can find what you are looking for.

If you have not already, I would highly suggest downloading the Google Maps Navigation app. Breaking down some of the other features, traffic view will show you either a green, yellow or red indicator on the map so you can judge which roads will be clear, slow moving or stopped.

Another nice way that Google Maps Navigation allows you to find a business is by using the “search along route” feature that will let you either search for a business on your route, or simply add an overlay to your current route that displays popular points such as gas stations, restaurants, parking and ATM’s.

Additionally, if you are sporting a device that has voice command functionality such as the Nexus One or HTC Desire will be able to navigate without the need for the virtual keyboard using the Google Search bar.

Best of all, the Google Maps Navigation app is available for free and can be found by searching for “Google Maps” in the Android Market.

    1. Paul Manning says:

The fundamental problem with Google, something that they cannot do anything about, is the quality of the information they broadcast. It can be wrong, out of date, search results sometimes have nothing to do with what you wanted. They Sold their soul to the “Advertising Devil” and you can imagine how all this will go. You will be directed to the place that pays the most and that’s if the internet hackers haven’t sent you in the wrong direction after bombarding you with pops-ups, spam and before long dashboard porn.

GPS Locals will give them a run for their money. Our system is also FREE for users, factually correct and constantly updated with only one listing per unique address. With Global shipments of GPS-enabled handsets increased by 92% in 2009 to 150 million units and further forecasted to reach 770 million units in 2014 I can understand why Google want a piece, but really, with their track record, they should be banned from the GPS system.

GPS Locals have built a specific database to work with smartphone and satnav companies to ensure the information broadcast is correct and constantly updated.
