Wii Classic Controller Pro Out Today [Wii Classic Controller Jumps Ahead A Generation With Pro Edition]

The Wii Classic Controller is great for playing those old Virtual Console games. Actually, so is a Gamecube Controller, but we won’t mention those. As for the Classic Controller, it sort of emulated a NES or SNES controller but to better cater to the modern times, Nintendo has unleashed the “Pro” version of the Classic Controller that offers some design choices commonly found on modern game controllers.

The Classic Controller Pro was out in Japan and Europe before, but today it’s making its North American debut. It now has an extra set of shoulder buttons (bringing the total to two shoulder buttons on each side) and also added some ergonomic hand-grips that are similar to what you’d find on any console controller, post-1997. The cord for the controller now comes out of the top of the controllers, which may matter to some people.

Aside from the new shoulder buttons and the new grips, there’s nothing else new regarding how this controller works. It plugs into the Wiimote, like usual. Nintendo’s press release says that the Classic Controller Pro (and by extension – the regular Classic Controller, I assume) are compatible with 460 Wii, WiiWare and Virtual Console games.

The Classic Controller Pro by itself has an estimated retail price of $19.99. In comes in either white or black (the white looks whiter than the press shots for the regular Classic Controller). If you’re interested in the game ‘Monster Hunter Tri’, that game releases for the Wii today in North America, and Nintendo is selling that game bundled with the Wii Classic Controller for $59.99.
