Motorola Devour Software Update Currently Rolling Out Over-The-Air
Verizon Wireless officially added the Motorola Devour to the available lineup just a few weeks back, however that has not stopped Motorola from rolling out a quick update for those that made the purchase. The update in question is software version CALAND_X_01.15.08P and while it may not be Android 2.1 as many are hoping to see, it does still appear like it will be a welcomed update. The update is said to offer enhancements and fixes in terms of email, calendar and audio as well as overall device performance. It is also noted as containing “updated versions of Google applications.”

Lets begin with how to get the update. Basically you have two options, sit back and wait for a notification which should be coming soon. Or for those that are a little more impatient, you can head to Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> System Update. Once there just check for the update, download it and then begin the install process. All said and done, according to the update docs it says it should take anywhere from 3 to 15 minutes. I guess that time will really depend on how quick your network connection is and how long it takes to download the update.
As to what this update is offering, like I mentioned, its not Android 2.1 but it should still be an update that you go ahead with.
In terms of overall device performance you are looking at goodies such as an improved response time when Menu, Home or Back keys are pressed, stability improvements in the browser, contacts, V Cast Music and Rhapsody applications, enhancements to incoming call performance, improvements made to ensure pics are uploaded in the correct orientation and more.
Moving on to the email and calendar enhancements. Here you can expect improved funtionality to allow users to more easily delete POP3 accounts, enhancements to the Exchange ActiveSync Calendar agenda view, an auto-configure set up process for Verizon.net email accounts and more.
Finally, in terms of audio enhancements you are looking at improvements having been made to the ringer and voice dialing app as well as multimedia audio when you are using a headset.
