3D Television Popular, Despite Lack Of Content
Although there isn’t much home 3D content out either right now, either from home videos or TV channels, tech analysts are shocked by the high demand that these sets are seeing early on. Analysts expect between 1.7 and 2.5 million 3D TVs to be shipped this year.

DisplaySearch expects North America to be the center of 3D development, as well as have the most demand for home 3D technology. They’re basing this on the adaption of HD and Blu-ray technology in the home. Since the United States (and Canada) have a higher adaption of Blu-ray and HD home tech, they’re expecting 3D to be hot there, too.
DisplaySearch says that demand for 3D sets will boom in the coming years. While less than 3 million are expected to be sold this year (which seems high to me), they estimate that a whopping 27 million 3D HDTVs will be sold in the year 2013. Still, that being said, they that only 27% of new HDTVs that are bigger than 40-inches will be 3D-capable.
But it isn’t an easy path for 3D HDTVs. Paul Gray, director at DisplaySearch says, “The key issue will be how consumers react to the initial product launch, and what the industry will learn from the feedback of early adopters. Complications in the TV supply chain [and] especially 3D content shortages remain the biggest hurdles to overcome.”
