Motorola Titanium XT800 Heading To South Korea

Cheap Android Phone To Have 3.7-Inch Display, HDMI Out, 600MHz Processor

Reports are out that Motorola is preparing a new entry-level smartphone for the South Korean market. Obviously, that’s a hard mobile market to crack with local giants Samsung and LG competing heavily, but Motorola’s MOTOROI has been doing (allegedly) well and now they’re going to go after the low-end market with another new Android phone.

The new phone, called the Titanium XT800, will be a slate-style phone with a 3.7-inch display (bigger than the iPhone 3GS, mind you). For processor power, the leak says that it will have the same Texas Instruments processor found in the Motorola Droid/Milestone, which is a OMAP processor that has a clockspeed of 600 MHz (they underclocked it on the Droid, may do the same here).

It will have a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash as well as a HDMI output (which all but confirms it’s capable of HD video). It will reportedly be a dual-SIM device and will be running Android 2.0 (but not 2.1?).

This device has been out in China for sometime, and now Motorola is pressing their luck with it in South Korea. The device is allegedly heading to SK Telecom first, but evidence points towards Motorola having both CDMA and UMTS out in the country. The guys at IntoMobile suggest that this will be a media-centric device, and that MOTOBLUR is being left off the device.

No word on pricing or a release date – or if it will work unlocked on a North American/European network. It is nice to see some cheap Android phones coming out, though. Not everybody can afford those HTC Android “Superphones”.
