iPhone OS 4.0 Multitasking for iPhone, iPad & iPod touch Revealed
As expected one of the main features of iPhone OS will be third-party apps multitasking. Sure I feel that my iPhone 3G won’t be able to take it so I’ll try to break it to him gently. But I do suspect he won’t like multitasking very much and we’ll have to part ways once iPhone OS 4.0 is available.

But let’s see what Steve Jobs & Co. want to show us when it comes to iPhone OS multitasking, a feature all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users expect from Apple.
Apple seems to want to be the best at multitasking just as they were the best at Copy and Paste. According to Steve Jobs the feature is really easy to be implemented but then you will lose battery power and the whole experience will be sluggish, exactly what we did say when talking about how difficult smartphone multitasking implementation can be.
Naturally Apple has found an out of the box solution:
We figured out how to implement multitasking for third party apps and avoid those things. That’s what took us a little longer, but I think we nailed it.
After such brave statements Apple’s CEO demoed the whole thing. It looks that at the core of multitasking we find the omnipresent Home button. Clicking it twice will bring up a new menu bar in which one will find the apps currently running in the background 4 at a time:
Very, very simple! (according to Steve Jobs, of course)
Every app is going to work flawlessly apparently and, in case you are wondering, yes, every one of them will keep the state you left it in when you switched to a new app. That means you’ll be able to have a bunch of apps opened at the same time and be able to return to them at anytime you would wish to do so.
