iPhone OS 4.0 Event Opened by Steve Jobs & His iPad

Steve Jobs Brags About the iPad; Official Numbers Are In

As expected Steve Jobs has opened the iPhone OS 4.0 event with details about the iPad. The new toy is already a best seller and Apple’s famous CEO has decided to show us, yet again, how great a device the iPad really is. I wonder though if iPhone OS 4.0 will add some new features to the tablet, since we already know we have good reasons for not to buy it (yet!).

The iPad official numbers are as follows:

  • 450,000 iPads sold through today – one million coming soon?
  • 600,000 iBooks downloaded through today
  • 250,000 iBooks downloaded in the first day
  • 3.5 million iPad apps downloaded through today
  • 4 billion apps downloaded so far
  • 185,000 apps in the App Store
  • 3,500 iPad-only apps in the store.

Is that impressive? I say it is even if I’d have my own reasons not to get the iPad yet.

The HP Slate revealed a few days ago will not be able to match Apple when it comes to content. Sure it has lots of specs and features the iPad doesn’t have: webcam, memory slot, USB port, Flash & multitasking but what about the apps? What about the eBooks? What about movies and music?

The tablet is a device we don’t need. But if we would need it then we would expect it to offer us access to lots of content sources since that would be its main purpose besides quick web surfing and email.

Steve Jobs unveiled other official numbers during the official opening of the iPhone OS 4.0 event:

  • 64% of the U.S. Mobile Browser Usage comes from iPhone OS
  • 50 Million iPhones sold to date in almost three years of existence
  • 85 Million iPhone and iPod touches sold to date

As you can see lots of people are already waiting for iPhone OS 4.0 to arrive, iPad owners included, so stick around, folks, since we have just started to cover Apple’s latest event!
