Sharp Quattron TVs Getting DivX Functionality [1080p HD DivX Playback Being Added To Sharp's Digital HDTVs]
DivX is one of the more popular codecs for video content online. A lot of TVs have already had support for the popular codec, but now, Sharp is adding DivX support to a new Sharp AQUOS HDTV. The Quattron-equipped HDTVs will let users play their DivX content right off of a flash drive of from a network.

Sharp’s LE820 AQUOS TV will be the first HDTV from Sharp getting the DivX support. Right now, it’s only shipping in Europe. Users will be able to stream DivX content from a home network or the Internet via the TV’s Ethernet port, or via a thumb drive from a USB drive.
All of this stuff is in line with the “digital” revolution that’s happening in HDTVs as manufacturers add more and more IPTV and other Internet-connected content to their sets.
The AQUOS LE820 features Sharp’s high-profile “Quattron” four-color technology, which they’ve been pushing heavily in TV marketing here in the ‘States. Sharp says they’re changing the HDTV landscape by adding yellow to the familiar RGB that most TV has. The addition of yellow (allegedly) allows them to display more colors.
The LE820 will be an official “DivX-certified” device. As the press release explains, every device christened with the “DivX-certified” tag has been tested for reliable video playback as well as interoperability with other DivX-certified devices.
DivX is pretty popular because it’s able to easily compress video into small files but keep a decent video quality. DivX says that almost 250 million devices have been “DivX-certified”
