Onkyo Announces The MX1007A4 Netbook [MX1007A4 Netbook From Onkyo Will Feature A 10.1" Display, 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z515 CPU & Windows 7 Starter, To Be Available April 10]
Despite having numerous currently available options for choosing a netbook, companies are continuously added new models. Of course, in most cases I would say that is a good thing, after all more options should make for more competition and in turn that should lead to better products. Unfortunately in this case that does not seem to be what has happened. This particular netbook, which is coming courtesy of Onkyo is the MX1007A4. And aside from a long model number name, the one big perk that is is touting is a battery life of up to 14.4 hours.

Sadly though, the rest of the specs, not to mention the exterior casing do not share the same good sound as the proposed battery life. As far as the specs, really not much shines here. You can expect to find a 10.1 inch display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z515 processor, GMA 500 graphics, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive with Windows 7 Starter.
Other features include a fingerprint scanner, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Ethernet, two USB ports, VGA out, a built-in card reader, audio in/out and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. In terms of size and weight, that would be 2.56 pounds and 10.4 x 9.05 x 0.70-0.86 inches.
Getting back to that one feature that shines — the battery life. That is coming by way of a 5,800 mAh lithium ion battery. And while that sounds good, we must remember that the 14.4 hour battery life is expected, however expected means that it will usually be less in real world use. After all, most of those “up to” battery life promises usually come with display brightness turned down and other features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned off.
Anyway, to wrap this up, the Onkyo MX1007A4 netbook is expected to be available as of April 10. Additionally, it looks like this one is heading (at least initially) to the Japanese market where it will sell for 59,800 yen (around $637 US).
