Rhapsody Rolls Out Android App & Lowers Price For Everyone

Rhapsody Has Stepped Out On Their Own, Cut Prices From $14.99 To $9.99 & Released An Android App

Rhapsody has just offered up a press release, and it was packed full of goodies. Just to begin, Rhapsody has announced that they have completed a process that was noted as taking the “better part of a year” and have left their parent companies. For those that may not have realized, Rhapsody was previously tied in with RealNetworks as well as MTV/Viacom. Exactly what this means, well for starters it means a new logo and a company that is promising to be “focused 100% on music.”

Sounds good, and it looks like they plan to roll out the goodies immediately. Also included in that same press release was two announcements. Lets talk about the new app first. As of today, Android users will be able to download Rhapsody, although the app is still being listed as a beta. That said, anyone can download it and give it a try. I will also point out that the Rhapsody app appears to be available for everyone, because even my sad Droid Eris which is stuck on Android 1.5 can see it in the Market and download it. But despite being a beta, the app has been around since January on a limited basis, which should mean that there is a pretty good chance most of the bugs have been squashed already. As far as use, the app comes with a 7 day free trial, and after customers can choose to stay on as a Rhapsody Premier member.

Taking that as a transition, the Rhapsody Premier membership was the last bit of news that was released today. And also a pretty nice bit if I do say so myself. Effective immediately, the cost of the monthly subscription will be going down — from $14.99 to $9.99.

In addition to the recently announced Android app, Rhapsody is also available for the iPhone and is expected to come to the BlackBerry in “early 2010.” Of course, these mobile apps are in addition to offerings for Sonos, Logitech, Linksys, Yahama, Control4 and Russound systems.
