Spirit iPad Tablet Jailbreak Already Available

Thanks to the iPhone Dev Team the iPad has already been jailbroken. Of course you were expecting these ingenious hackers to come up with such a solution sooner or later especially since they are very familiar with the way iPhones, iPod touches and now iPads work. And the iPad is just an “iPhone on steroids” that happens to run an iPhone OS version which means it should be fairly easy for the iPhone Dev Team to jailbreak it.

Now, do we really need jailbreaking solutions this early in the game? The iPad only has over 1,000 iPad-only apps available so far and plenty more are probably awaiting Apple’s approval.

On the other hand the iPad has access to all the iPhone/iPod touch apps available in the App Store which can all be run on the tablet. That means it can run any of the apps that aren’t currently supported by the App Store too. So in case you happen to use any unofficial apps on your jailbroken iPhone and/or iPod touch, an iPad jailbreak is definitely welcomed.

This new iPad hack is apparently based on the Spirit jailbreak method made by comex and the iPhone Dev Team will probably release the iPad jailbreak software to the masses in the near future.

You should be warned though that Apple will not be happy with you jailbreaking and unlocking any of their devices. These practices can lead to warranty voids especially if they happen to brick the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Of course, if you absolutely need Cydia apps on the iPad then jailbreaking is the only solution available to you.

As for unlocking hacks, I don’t really think we’ll need any of them, will we? The 3G iPad will not be out for another month and when it does come out, customers won’t be required to bundle it with a 2-year contract with AT&T.
