New iPhone 3GS Ad Official; iPad Still the Center of Attention

New Commercial Shows Us How a Simple “Commute” Can be Saved by the iPhone 3GS

Apple has rolled out a new iPhone 3GS ad. Entitled “Commute” the commercial shows us how easy a commute can be thanks to the smartphone’s abilities. But shouldn’t Cupertino focus on its all new iPad coming out this Saturday instead? After all, the iPad is currently the center of everyone’s attention, if they aren’t going to buy the tablet anytime soon.

iPhone 3GS Front Back

The iPhone 3GS is already selling like hot cakes and it has been bringing a steady flow of revenue to Apple since it was unveiled last summer. Chances are that the company will sell lots of iPhone 3GS units in the following quarter even if the much anticipated iPhone 4G will be announced this June.

So let’s look past this simple story the ad above shows us and see what Apple is telling us again in this 30-second clip, shall we?

The iPhone 3GS has a powerful App Store available at all times to support all your needs. Whether you’re looking for the next train or you want to send away some files stored on your home or work computer, there’s an app for that.

Furthermore Apple’s U.S. carrier partner, AT&T, can handle both data transfers and calls at the same time. That way, whenever Mike will be asking you to send him various reports you’ll be able to do so without actually hanging up on him. Maybe you won’t be able to do it in 14 seconds as the ad suggests but you’ll get the job done without actually having to be in front of the computer.

The ad also clearly says that 3G is not available in all areas, because, well, we all know that AT&T doesn’t have that much land coverage as others, a point that Verizon has tried to make in that “There’s a map for that!” campaign we’ve seen before Christmas 2009.

Last but not least Apple is giving a plug to the Wall Street Journal, one of their iPad content providers but it also indirectly advertises lots of other iPhone applications you might already be familiar with: Facebook, Mass Transit, Flickr, File File!, IMDb, KAYAK, Evernote, Last.fm, NYTimes, MoneyBook or Quickoffice.

iPhone 3GS aside, we’ll look forward to hear your iPad-related stories since Apple’s smartphone is not that interesting anymore. At least not to anyone waiting for the iPhone 4G to arrive!
