XFX To Release Gun-Shaped Overclocked Radeon HD 5970 [After Being Left Out Of Fermi Launch, XFX To Release Super ATI Radeon HD 5970 With 4GB VRAM, Six Video Ports, Gun Packaging]

As we reported just a few hours ago, former NVIDIA-only manufacturer XFX is being left out in the cold for the Fermi launch. Allegedly, NVIDIA is upset that XFX decided to begin producing ATI graphics cards last year, so they’ve decided to keep XFX out of the loop, but rumors pointed to the fact that XFX would combat this with a new overclocked ATI Radeon HD 5970, and now we’ve got further details on such a card.

The GeForce GTX 480 may be currently the most power you can get with a single-GPU card, but XFX is looking to draw some attention from them with this upcoming beast. The Radeon HD 5970 is currently the fastest consumer graphics card on the market, and we’ve seen ASUS and Sapphire release some crazy overclocked models of this card over the past few months, but now XFX is joining the fun.

This card from XFX will have a shocking amount of VRAM – a whopping 4GB – while the reference spec for the Radeon HD 5970 only has 2GB of VRAM onboard. This still mysterious XFX super Radeon HD 5970 will also have (allegedly) six video ports on the back, which will make it the first card with enough ports for AMD’s Eyefinity6 six-monitor setup capabilities.

The card will also come in some unique packaging. Renders for the card, allegedly directly from XFX, show the card coming in a case that looks like a machine gun. Definitely awesome – don’t know if it’s worth the extra cost that it’ll add onto the card. And as other blogs have pointed out – don’t get caught with the police by it.

As you can imagine, such an over-the-top Radeon HD 5970 card will be expensive. A stock Radeon HD 5970 goes for about $700, with reports saying that this XFX beast will cost $100 more than a typical one. So expect this thing to cost about $800. Nothing else yet on this card, stay tuned – we’ll post more details if we get them. We’ve contacted XFX for comment on either the story that they’re being left out of the Fermi launch and this one.
