Rogers Rocket Mobile Hotspot Officially Available [Novatel MiFi 2372 Now Available With Rogers, Dubbed The Rocket Mobile Hotspot]

Rogers has officially announced that they are now offering a MiFi. Or more specifically they are offering the Novatel MiFi 2372, which has been dubbed the Rocket Mobile Hotspot.

For those unfamiliar with the MiFi devices, they are 3G modems that broadcast as a mobile hotspot and allow you to connect up to five devices such as notebooks, netbooks or mobile phones. And because they are simply sending a wireless signal, there is no need to worry about drivers for your computer. Connecting to 3G is as easy as turning on the MiFi and connecting your device to the wireless signal, just like you would any other hotspot.

The Rocket Mobile Hotspot in particular offers support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, has A-GPS and gpsOneXTRA and can top out at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps down with 5.7 Mbps up. The MiFi is a smaller device measuring in at 62 x 98 x 15.3 mm and weighing just 81 grams. In other words, you will be able to carry it with you without much in terms of extra bulk or weight in your gear bag.

Other features of the Rogers branded Novatel MiFi 2372 include a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 16GB in size. As for expected battery life, the MiFi is said to be able to offer up to 4 hours of hotspot use when running off the built-in battery. Or you can also plug it in via USB and charge it up. I should point out though, when the device is plugged in you can only use it as a 3G modem for the computer it is plugged into.

And to close this post out, the Rogers Rocket Mobile Hotspot can be picked up for $49.99 or $99.99 on a three or two year agreement respectively. Or for those looking to go contract free, expect to pay $249.99.
