Motorola Droid Users, Here Is How You Can Manually Update To Android 2.1 [How To Manually Update Your Verizon Motorola Droid To Android 2.1]

Forget waiting for Verizon to run through their update plans with the Motorola Droid. Here is a quick how to that will show you what you need to do in order to have your Motorola Droid running 2.1 now. Of course, this method is not going to be something that all Droid users are comfortable with. In other words, read carefully, proceed with caution and do not blame me if something goes wrong.

Now that we have the obligatory and equally silly disclaimer out of the way, here you go. The directions are laid out in seven steps. I suggest reading, then reading again, then enjoying Android 2.1.

    1. 1. Download the Android 2.1 update here.
      2. Once the file has finished downloading you will need to rename it to “update.zip” (without the quotes).
      3. Then transfer the downloaded file over to the microSD card in your Droid. And when transferring it over, make sure you put it in the root folder.
      4. After the file is safely on the microSD card, reboot your Droid into recovery mode. (Hold down the X key and press the power button to enter recovery mode.)
      5. At this time you should see a triangle with exclamation point. That is what you want. Once that appears you need to press the volume up and the camera button at the same time. After that press you should see the options for recovery.
      6. From there use the d-pad and navigate to the update.zip file on the microSD card and select it.
      7. That will run through the install process and eventually come back with a “Install from sdcard complete” message. To finish the process, just reboot.

Assuming you follow those steps and everything goes according to plan, you should be running Android 2.1 and enjoying all of the new goodies that come along with in no time flat.
