Microsoft Confirms 64GB Zune HD
Earlier in the week we saw the brief mention of a 64GB Zune HD hit the Zune.net website, but at the time that link only went to a 404 page. Turning that around, and at the same time not coming as that much of a surprise, Microsoft has officially confirmed the 64GB Zune HD. In terms of pricing and availability, expect to pay $349.99 and be able to do so as of April 12.

Thankfully though this little bit of Zune related news also comes with some additional information. The currently available Zune HD lineup, which consists of a 16GB and 32GB model will be given a drop in price. That price drop will go into effect immediately and means that moving forward you will be able to pick up a 16GB Zune HD for $199.99 and a 32GB Zune HD for $269.99. For those unaware of what the Zune HD’s were selling for, the 16GB model was $219.99 and the 32GB model was $289.99. So basically a $20 savings.
In terms of what you will be able to choose from on April 12. If you make that purchase by way of the ZuneOriginals website you can get the 64GB Zune HD in either platinum, black, blue, red, green, purple or magenta. You will also be able to customize the back with a variety of designs and engraving.
As far as what 64GB worth of storage space really means, in short, it means you can add lots. But more specifically, you will be able to load up to 16,000 songs, 20 hours of high definition video or up to 25,000 pictures.
Finally, and to tie in the other bit of Zune news that we saw yesterday in regards to version 4.5. Maybe the 64GB Zune HD release date of April 12 will coincide with the release of version 4.5. After all, it sort of fits in nicely, of course that is nothing more than an guess on my part. Officially though, the press release stated that they would share “more news on the availability of the 4.5 firmware in the coming days.”
