iPhone OS 4.0 Rumored To Feature Expose-Like Multitasking
The iPhone is certainly not a stranger to rumors that involve multitasking, its been talked about for quite a while now, and most recently yesterday. Honestly its one that I would like to see come true. At least come true in part. Let me explain, I am in the camp that multitasking is a nice thing to have. But at the same time I feel it can be abused and cause a horrible user experience. And by horrible user experience I am really referring to sluggish performance and poor battery life.

Anyway, getting back on track, this latest iPhone OS 4.0 multitasking rumor is coming courtesy of AppleInsider who are citing “those familiar with the design of iPhone 4.0.” According to the latest, it looks like multitasking will handled by way of an expose-like interface. The way it works is explained as being as simple as hitting the home button twice to bring up a window with the apps that are currently running.
Not to take a shot at Apple, but that sounds similar to what I can do on my Droid Eris — hold down the home button for a few seconds to bring up a small window that displays my 6 most recently used apps. Granted its not the same exact, but close enough.
Moving on though, once that app window is launched, the user will be able to select the app they want to use. After the app is selected, “the iPhone OS zooms out of the Expose task manager and transitions to that app.”
In the end though, I really just want to see the multitasking rumors come true because I want to be able to stream Slacker Radio on my iPhone, soon to be iPad and surf the web or check my email at the same time.
