Cisco Announces New E-Series Linksys Routers
Earlier today, Cisco unveiled a new series of home routers. The new models will come sporting the Linksys branding and fall in the E-Series. And the nice part about this announcement is that these are wireless routers capable of Wireless-N.

This E-Series routers will ship with a new software program called Cisco Connect which is aimed at offering parental controls and easy setup. Of course, the Cisco Connect software also has a few other little tricks, such as the ability to easily set up a second “guest” network. Otherwise, the rest of the features allow what some have come to expect in terms of a home router and include the ability to personalize your network name, create a safe and secure password as well as add other devices onto the network. In terms of individual features;
E1000
- Uses 2.4 GHz Band for wireless access
- Has four Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) ports to directly connect wired devices
E2000
- Selectable 2.4 or 5 GHz bands to help avoid interference
- Has four Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) ports for faster file sharing with other Gigabit-enabled devices, including computers, hard drives, and servers
E3000
- Simultaneous Dual-Band (2.4 and 5 GHz) for high performance wireless entertainment
- Has four Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) ports for faster file sharing with other USB port and provides connectivity to storage devices for file sharing at home or over the Internet
- Built-in UPnP AV media server enables streaming of entertainment content to an Xbox 360, PS3 or other compatible device
E2100L
- Utilizes the Linux operating system for flexibility to customize the network
- Has four Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) ports to directly connect wired devices
- Built-in UPnP AV Media Server streams entertainment content to an Xbox 360, PS3 or other compatible device
- 2 external, detachable antennas
- USB port provides connectivity to storage devices for file sharing at home or over the Internet
The new series of routers can be purchased directly from Cisco for $79.99, $119.99, $179.99 or $119.99 for the E1000, E2000, E3000 or the E2100L respectively. In addition the AE1000 Wireless-N adapter is selling for $69.99.
