Verizon iPhone 4G Neither Confirmed Nor Denied For Now [Verizon Takes a “No Comment” Approach on the CDMA iPhone Rumor; Apple Still Silent]

Yesterday we showed you a rumor according to which Apple is currently having its suppliers build two iPhones which will be launched later this year. One of them is the iPhone 4G / iPhone HD which will be announced this summer and the other could be the CDMA iPhone we’ve been talking about for a while now.

Following up on the rumor we asked Verizon whether it can confirm or deny the story which first appeared in the WSJ. As you can expect folks, the CDMA iPhone was not confirmed but it was not denied either.

And who can blame them for not wanting to comment on rumors and speculation. But the fact still remains that the CDMA iPhone rumor is now stronger than ever. We’ve talked about it ourselves a bunch of times and we heard different stories about Apple’s intentions. The LTE iPhone scheduled for a Verizon release has also been rumored before but we also hear that T-Mobile USA was a candidate for receiving the iPhone later down the road. We also heard that a hybrid CDMA/GSM iPhone was in the works, not that we really expect such a handset to hit stores anytime soon.

Whatever the case might be, we can bet our money on two things. One, Apple can’t stay forever tied up with AT&T in the USA. Especially not with an iPhone 4G/HD smartphone that will most likely bring some features iPhone lovers have been waiting for: video calls, multitasking, faster processor and better battery life.

And two, Apple will have to build a new iPhone whether it’s taking it to Verizon, T-Mobile or even Sprint. Sure Apple would be spending some extra cash on developing a new iPhone version that will accommodate Verizon/T-Mobile bands, but such a move will surely prove to be the right thing for Cupertino.

Of course Apple stays silent at this point, not that it’s surprising us in any way.

What are your thoughts on the matter, Verizon customers? Is Verizon getting the iPhone this year? And if so, which version do you expect Big Red to sell? CDMA iPhone 3G or 3GS? Or is it going straight for the iPhone 4G/HD?
