Samsung Wave, Galaxy S To Be First Mobile Phones With DivX Support
DivX is one of the more popular codecs for pirated content and other media on the internet. They allow small file sizes with high quality and so it’s natural that people would want the DivX HD codecs on their mobile phones. Samsung is now filling that need as their Wave and Galaxy S smartphones will be the first in the world to have DivX 720p video support.

We’ve seen DivX HD codecs run on various tablets and other media players, so it’s almost hard to believe that it’s taken this long to have the HD codecs added to phones (DivX Inc, says that they’ve been providing codecs for mobile phones since 2007). HTC announced that DivX support would be included on the HTC Desire at a later date via a OTA update, and although the HTC Desire is already out, it lacks the DivX codec. This puts Samsung in a prime position to drink HTC’s milkshake and be the first phone manufacturer to offer the DivX HD.
I’d suspect that the Samsung Galaxy S and it’s strong graphics capabilities are one reason as to why it can easily run 720p video. The Samsung Galaxy S is also features a mouth-watering 4-inch OLED screen – as OLED screens have a sharp picture, it’ll be a treat to watch HD video on those screens.
For those interested in DivX HD on a mobile device – the HTC Desire is already out, but sans the DivX HD codec. The Samsung Wave with Bada OS is set to drop in April 2010 while the Samsung Galaxy S (so far, the most powerful Android phone yet) is coming “soon” according to Samsung.
