Verizon's Nexus One Rumored To Be Coming In April & With A Surprise
This past weekend the Verizon Wireless capable Nexus One made a brief appearance on the Google phone store and fortunately that appearance was caught in the form of a screenshot. I say fortunately because the Nexus One apparently was only listed as available for a few short minutes. That short time was however, long enough to show a $199 price tag. Of course, that $199 price was listed as the on contract price which means a two year commitment. Interestingly enough, the Nexus One at Verizon is going to be $20 more than that on T-Mobile. But with that, I should point out how easy it would be to fake a screenshot like that. So we must take it for what it is — a story based on an image which has not been proven.

But moving on past that, it looks like some others around the web have been doing their best to dig up whatever goodies they can on the Nexus One. Personally I cannot wait, but it looks like everyone, myself included will have a bit longer than originally hoped. According to at least one source, the Nexus One will become available with Verizon in April. That alone is good and bad, it offers a time frame, however that means the availability could be up to another five weeks away.

Moving on past the rumored time frame we are also being treated to an additional bit of information. Of course, this one is also a rumor at this point, but one that sounds good.
“Google and Verizon have always said the Nexus One would launch in the spring, so April makes sense and fits the rumors I am hearing. What is new is that I have multiple sources telling me that when it is launched consumers are going to be surprised. I am being led to believe the Verizon version of the Nexus One may contain something that the versions on other U.S. carriers lack.”
Now this makes me wonder whether this surprise could be tied back to those rumors we saw in mid March which suggested that the Verizon Wireless Nexus One would have Sense UI. Maybe, but maybe not. At this point I would say that anything is possible, however I am not counting on that one happening. Either way though, I am looking forward to a surprise.

Verizon is going to lose their customers at an alarming rate if they keep this up. One of the biggest carriers in US should not keep their customers waiting this long for phones. Instead of spending all their money on coverage, they should really look into acquiring new smartphones. T-Mobile, although with their crappy coverage, is stealing all the customers with the Nexus One that came out months ago.
I am seriously considering going to another carrier to get a better Smartphone. I have the Verizon Blackberry Storm, which is a disappointment. I had planned to buy the Nexus One last week. The only reason I am with Verizon now is its coverage on the East Coast. However, lately I been getting dropped calls on Verizon in areas I had not before. If I am going to get dropped calls, I may as well get a good phone at a cheaper rate. C’mon Verizon. Get you act together.
T-Mobile is stealing customers from Verizon b/c of the Nexus One? Maybe a few but nothing I would imagine that would cause VZ alarm. I’m a T-Mo customer and when my contract is up in a few months, they will loose me to VZ b/c of the coverage issues. I have a feeling there are many more that will jump to VZ than will jump away b/c of delays in N1.
Back to the topic, the surprise is intriguing though I doubt it is Sense UI. As a Google phone, wouldn’t that delay Google’s ability to push updates to their phone. This is one of the benefits I keep hearing about – no delayed updates. Though, I can’t really think of anything else that they could change to the phone without it loosing its N1 name…
I think the surprise will be that it has Skype Mobile. Not much of a surprise since most of the people salivating over this VZW phone have already kind of figured this out because Skype was to launch on 9 phones and they only announced 7. Hmm what are the other 2 phones? Could it be the N1?
@Rob D, Skype Mobile is interesting, one that I had not thought of.
