Verizon BlackBerry Tour OS Update Now Available [Verizon Tour 9630 OS Update Offers Push-to-Talk Support, Camera & Bluetooth Functionality Improvements]
If you happen to be packing a Verizon BlackBerry Tour then you’ll be pleased to know that the Verizon OS update, specifically OS 5.0.0.581, is available as of today both as an over-the-air (OTA) update and a download via the net.

The OS 5.0.0.581 update brings a range of improvements to the Tour 9630 with respect to the smartphone’s camera, calling, messaging and Bluetooth functionalities but the big draw is undoubtedly the inclusion of push-to-talk support which will allow Tour owners using either the BlackBerry Internet Service or enterprise Serve to engage with up to 50 other users who also have PTT capabilities whilst PTT calling will utilise your standard phone number.
Verizon’s push-to-talk is set to be activated for Tour handsets from March 30th – that’ll be tomorrow then, if you’re reading this today, not that that helps if you are reading this after today (today being 29th March) – with the PTT service being made available for anyone with applicable voice and data plans though, as at this juncture, Verizon are remaining tight lipped as to whether the PTT service will remain free or will, in due course, be offered for a fee.
Along with PTT functionality, as mentioned above, the new Tour OS update also offers a number of other enhancements which should result in smoother camera operation (both in terms or stills and video capture), enhanced voice activated dialling, an improved missed call log and updated call waiting and upgraded Bluetooth functionality (specifically when using VZ Navigator).
