HTC HD2 Windows Phone 7 Spotted in the Wild; This Time for Real
Right after the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Series announcement at MWC 2010 we showed you a picture of a WP7S-running HTC HD2. While the picture in question was a fake, since then we kept asking if a Windows Phone 7 upgrade is heading to HTC’s flagship phone and at Microsoft MIX10 we were officially told that Redmond will not support it.

Apparently the HTC HD2 doesn’t have what it takes, from the hardware point of view, to deal with the new Windows Mobile OS version. As you can expect not everyone will agree with Microsoft and sooner or later custom WP7S ROMs for the HTC HD2 will appear thus offering everyone bold enough to make the change the opportunity of installing one of the hottest smartphone operating systems out there on one of the hottest smartphones available so far.

The first proofs of such ROMs have already hit the web and not only do we have pictures to prove it but there are also videos available. And this time around it’s all real.
From what we already know the HTC HD2 in the videos below is almost fully functional thanks to a team of Russian HTC HD2 fans that decided to make Windows Phone 7 Series work on their beloved device. It looks like the Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth are all working already but there are problems with the graphics drivers and there’s some lagging which you will not like.

There are also issues with the buttons of the handset. The HD2 has more buttons than Windows Phone 7 needs and so far only two are operational, Start and Back while a third one will be mapped to Search. The remaining buttons will be pretty much left useless.
Does this mean that Windows Phone 7 should not be running on the HTC HD2 in the first place? Is Microsoft right? Well we’re not going to jump to any conclusions just yet since this is practically the first WP7S build for the HD2 which means other versions are going to follow in the upcoming months.
