ESPN 3D Sports TV Network Made Official by DIRECTV [ESPN 3D Coming to “Millions of Customers Nationwide”; Only a Bunch Actually Have 3D TVs]

You might have gotten used to the idea that 3D TV is happening this year. In fact we’ve already seen quite a few 3D broadcasting try-outs and various manufacturers have started to promote their brand new 3D HDTVs. But now we have an even bigger announcement for you, sports fans, ESPN 3D is coming to millions of customers nationwide thanks to DIRECTV.

Unfortunately for DIRECTV only a bunch of people already own 3D television sets which are actually needed in order to watch all those sports transmission on the “industry’s first 3D sports television network.”

Luckily for you the new ESPN 3D programs will only be available starting this June so you have plenty of time to get used to your first 3D TV until then. First you’d have to buy the new TV though.

ESPN 3D network will start with 25 2010 FIFA World Cup matches which is certainly something you’ll enjoy. Including that major tournament, the network will have at least 85 live sporting events through the year and I am talking about 3D live sports, of course. Eric Shank, executive vice president, DIRECTV Entertainment commented on ESPN 3D:

Watching ESPN’s comprehensive lineup of sports programming in 3D will be like having your own virtual seat at all of your favorite sporting events around the world. We are excited to be the first and only distributor to announce the launch of ESPN 3D and we look forward to announcing additional 3D partners throughout the year.

In case 3D sports is not enough for you, DIRECTV will also launch its “newly named linear 3D channel N3D powered by Panasonic” which will feature programs for multiple TV networks such as AEG/AEG Digital Media, CBS, Fox Sports/FSN, Golden Boy Promotions, HDNet, MTV, NBC Universal and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Furthermore a 24/7 3D pay per view and a 24/7 3D DIRECTV on Demand channel are also going to be available in June so go get your 3D HDTV and matching 3D glasses already!
