Century Releases USB 3.0 2.5" HDD Enclosure

External Hard Drive Enclosure Provides Cheap USB 3.0 External Hard Drive

USB 3.0-powered external hard drives are hot right now, but they’re also pretty expensive. Those who crave such an external hard drive with the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed transfer rates should check out this USB 3.0 2.5″ HDD enclosure from the Japanese folks at Century. For a low cost and your own 2.5″ hard drive, you can have your own USB 3.0 drive.

External USB 3.0 hard drives aren’t cheap (case in point: This one we covered which costs $200) but hard drive enclosures have always been cheap ways to make your own (so to speak) external HDDs. Century’s aptly name USB 3.0 2.5″ enclosure lets you do just that. It uses a SATA interface and is compatible with either hard drive or solid-state drives (as long as their 2.5-inches). As far as the enclosure itself, it’s screwless for easy assembly.

The enclosure is about $48 and being sold by Japanese tech importer GeekStuff 4 U, so it isn’t being sold in the United States or Europe – so those uncomfortable about importing gadgets might want to wait. An interesting alternative to making your own USB 3.0 HDD enclosure would be the Sharoon HDD dock we covered two weeks ago. The dock was a bit more expensive at $80, but it allowed you to use two hard drives and hot-swap them on the fly.
