T-Mobile Brings Inductive Charging To The myTouch 3G
A joint announcement coming from T-Mobile and PureEnergy Solutions will soon allow myTouch 3G users to charge their phone without a power cable attached. The product will be the myTouch Drop and Go Charging Pad and as of sometime “in the coming weeks” it will become available for sale in select T-Mobile retail locations.

The myTouch Drop and Go Charging Pad, long name aside, will come with the charging pad and a replacement back cover for the myTouch 3G as well as three Power Discs. The replacement back cover is what will allow the user to charge the phone. As for the included Power Discs, they will allow you to charge other devices such as a Bluetooth headset using the same charging pad.
For those that may not be familiar with the wireless charging options, think along the lines of the Pre Plus and the Touchstone charger from Palm. Basically you just place your device on the pad and it will begin to charge.
As of now, and similar to the vague “in the coming weeks” time frame, the pricing information was not released. So, while this may sound like a cool option for myTouch 3G users, we are going to have to wait on a final price before making a coolness factor judgement. That said, PureEnergy has similar product bundles available for sale on their website that are selling for $79.99.
Additionally, those other charging mats are coming in at 8 x 6 inches and are noted as being able to deliver enough “power to simultaneously charge multiple devices such as cell phones or portable music players.” Its said that one of these WildCharger pads can charge a “whole family’s cell phones overnight.” I have seen a bunch of these systems around, they have often been on display at big tech events such as CES. Just to name a few, we have the more specialized version from Palm for the Pre, but another company called Powermat is offering similar wireless charging stations.
