Google Paying Carriers for Android Love & Attention?
A recent report is saying that the reason Android smartphones are so very well welcomed by carriers is that Google is actually cutting them in the Google Search profits generated from those specific devices.

In fact it looks like the deal includes some mobile carriers and cellphone makers which get a share of Google’s now famous search business. The advertising revenue that is split with these companies will only come from Google services which have to be pre-installed on the smartphones in question. I am talking about Google Search, Mail and Gmail, three of the most popular Google service available so far.
While we don’t have anything really official to back these claims up, we won’t say they can’t be true. Sure Google can think of such a way of rewarding mobile operators and smartphone manufacturers for making Android one of their prime business activities and Google can afford to pay that extra popularity fee, but that doesn’t make it wrong or immoral.
Let’s not forget that customers love Android for other reasons than simply because certain carriers are insisting with Android smartphone offers. Android is the alternative we were looking for in the smartphone business. Those of you that aren’t interested in iPhone OS or that are fairly disappointed with Symbian S60 or Windows Mobile 6.x will surely turn to Android and webOS.
Since webOS is slowly, Android is probably one of the best mobile OS choices so far. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 will probably slow down Android sales but if you think about it Redmond could also enter advertising deals with various carriers and smartphone makers out there in order to better promote WP7S. Would that be wrong in any way?
I did not forget about RIM but the company is still doing well no matter if it doesn’t have any hot handset out there at this time. Sure they need to reinvent themselves too sooner or later but they’re still a good iPhone and Android contender.
The point is that Android, although still not perfect, will, on the long run, become more and more popular no matter if Google does, or does not decides to share its advertising revenue with any of its partners in this mobile endeavor. That’s because we, the customers, the ones that are ultimately paying for all that advertising revenue too, are going to want more Android smartphones in our future lives. We’ll also want more iPhone OS and Windows Phone 7! In fact we’d love to have as many powerful mobile platforms out there to compete amongst themselves. That way we should, at least in theory get better and better mobile services.
