Sprint Unveils Eco-Friendly LG Remarq
Sprint’s other new smartphone, the HTC EVO 4G, is currently stealing the show at the CTIA trade show. However, Sprint quietly unleashed a new device, called the LG Remarq. The Remarq is a modest smartphone with a focus on social networking and using green technology.

The LG Remarq was made with what Sprint calls “Earth-friendly engineering”. The plastic casing was made with 19% recycled plastic. The device as a whole meets RoHS standards for lead, mercury and cadmium. It also has low levels of PVC and BFR. The charger meets Energy Star efficiency standards. The box packaging is fully recyclable and is made with 87% recycled cardboard. They’ve forgone a paper manual in favor of an online one.
Now that you’re convinced on it’s green standards, the phone it self looks to be a modest, entry-level smartphone for texting addicts. It features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, along with a 1.3-megapixel camera. It has stereo Bluetooth along with a microSD card slot. No word on the mobile OS, so it probably is a custom one, not Android or Windows Mobile or anything notable.
The device will have a pre-installed app that will calculate your improved carbon footprint by walking or riding a bike vs. driving in a car. They’ll also have some popular social networking apps like Twitter and Facebook pre-installed on the device, too. The price is decent too, as it’s free with a two-year plan and some $70 in rebates. The phone is apart of LG’s ecoMobilization green initiative – expect more of these devices from LG in the future.
