iTag Launches New Service, Promises To Track Your Lost Or Stolen Android Phone
Android smartphone users that worry about losing their phone or having it stolen, or those that just want to be on the safe side may want to check out this latest announcement coming out of CTIA. Earlier today, iTag rolled out a new service that will allow users to track the location of their Android based smartphone.

As of now the iTag service is still officially listed as being in beta, and in my personal experience I have yet to be able to test it. Lets just say that it is not working all that great on my Droid Eris, but after speaking with a Nexus One carrying friend I still feel ok mentioning the service. And yes, that means he had good results.
The better news here comes in regards to the price — free.
Those interested in checking out the iTag service have a few options for getting their handset set up. You can either visit the iTag website from a regular computer and enter your mobile number and receive a download link by text message or simply jump into the Market and do a quick search for iTag. I should also point out that the service is only available to those in the US.
As for what iTag can do, the free service will allow you to track the location of your phone using a regular computer and online maps. The tracking is done in the background and uses the built in GPS of your phone. Now for lots of people I suspect that the ability to track and locate your phone will be enough, but that said and for those looking to spend a few more bucks, there is also a premium service available for $20 a year.
Premium service members will receive more of a complete set of features which adds the ability to remotely lock and remotely wipe your device as well as make it ring (even if it is set to silent).
Finally, and perhaps the best portion of this post, the first 10,000 people to register at iTag will receive a lifetime of premium service for free.
