Kenwood AS-iP70 iPhone & iPod Compatible Multimedia System Unveiled [Latest iPhone & iPod Multimedia Speaker System From Kenwood Comes Sporting A 7" Display, SD Card Slot & AM/FM Radio]

Coming soon to those located in Japan is the iPhone and iPod compatible multimedia dock that I want, or at least something similar. The system is from Kenwood and it is going by the model number of AS-iP70, and while you can use it to play audio by way of the built-in speakers this is more of a multimedia system.

Of course, a multimedia system means having a display and in this particular instance that means a 7 inch WVGA LCD with a resolution of 800 x 480 and aspect ratio of 15:9. Other features of the AS-iP70 include an AM/FM radio, music player, alarm clock, USB 2.0 port and an SD/SDHC card reader with support for cards up to 32GB in size. The AS-iP70 also houses a pair of built-in 1.5W (each) speakers, which reside tucked in on the left and right sides of the display. Also included in the feature set is a retractable dock.

Device support comes in the form of the iPhone 3G and 3GS as well as the iPod touch, Classic and nano. Basically what we have is a multimedia system that docks Apple products which can be then used to view photo slideshows, play back music from your device and also play music from the radio or from a memory card. File format support is noted as being MP3, WMA, WAV and JPEG, though given there is a mention of “high-definition video” and the obvious support for Apple I would venture a guess that is not a complete list of supported files.

As for the overall size of the unit, it measures in at 8.66 inches wide with the iPod dock drawer closed (11.6 inches with the drawer open) and stands 6.2 inches high.

In regards to availability, as I mentioned earlier in the post, this system is heading to Japan in late April, and at least for now — only Japan. Price wise, expect to pay 25,000 yen, which is around $275 US.
