Samsung Announces Galaxy S Smartphone
The CTIA trade show is going on this week in Las Vegas and early in the show, Samsung has made a splash by announcing their Galaxy S smartphone in a press conference. Although it’s early, the phone is looking like it’ll be a pretty awesome addition to Samsung’s (sometimes) weak smartphone offerings.

The Samsung Galaxy S will have a huge 4-inch “Super” OLED touchscreen. They can get away with calling it “Super” because it uses a Samsung technology called mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine). The tech provides sharper and crisper images than even your run of the mill OLED display. Samsung has already been using these “Super” OLED panels in other products, like LCD TVs.
It’ll be running Android and will also have a 1GHz processor. It’s probably not the Snapdragon 1GHz – Samsung is adapt at making their own ARM-style processors so it’ll probably be one of theirs powering this device. Samsung also promises the Galaxy S will have “3D Maps” thanks to a native GPS app.
While the device will be running Android, the UI from the press shots looks different from the stock Android. It seems this could be the dreadful anticipated TouchWiz 2.0 that we’ve been hearing about. The phone will also have Samsung’s “Layar Reality Browser” which promises faster smartphone performance, apparently by utilizing location-sensitive search.
Nothing yet on a price for this phone. Samsung’s press release says the phone is coming “soon” to major mobile phone markets.
