Jolicloud OS Makes The Switch From Mozilla To Chrome
If you are a netbook user and have not yet checked out the Jolicloud OS, you may want to give it a quick look or two. Just to offer a quick explanation about what Jolicloud is, it is a Linux based operating system that is built on Ubuntu. It favors web apps, takes full advantage of the ‘cloud’ and is also excellent in being a relatively simple OS to install. Other perks of Jolicoud include quick boot times and support for a wide variety of netbooks.

But moving past what Jolicloud is, and stepping to where it is going. For most of its life, Jolicloud used Mozilla Prism for handling its web based apps. That said, the switch has been made and Mozilla Prism has been left in favor of Google Chrome. The news comes by way of a simple tweet from the official Twitter account for Jolicloud;
“The new Chrome platform is now available for all users, just click Update to convert all your webapps automagically!”
Those who will be making the move to Jolicloud with a new install or a new live USB drive will begin with the Google Chrome rendering engine for web apps. Those existing users (like myself) that have a system all set up will be able to upgrade without having to do a full re-install. In order for the existing users to update, just boot your system and enter the “My Jolicloud” section, from there you will be able to update.
The reasoning behind the switch, at least according to the Jolicloud team is that Google Chrome rendering will use less memory for each application as compared to Mozilla Prism. That said, the default web browser for the overall system remains as Firefox. Of course, if interested you can install, run and change you default browser to Google Chrome. And for those interested, it is a version capable of running Chrome Extensions and themes.
