Palm Pre Plus & Pixi Plus Heading To AT&T, To Be Available In The Coming Months [webOS Is Coming To AT&T In The Form Of The Palm Pre Plus & Pixi Plus]

Palm, by way of an official sounding press release has officially announced the upcoming release of the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus with AT&T. As for AT&T, this also serves a nice bragging point — they have become the only carrier that can offer a choice between all of the major mobile OS platforms including the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and webOS. As of now a specific release date has not been announced, instead they were simply noted as being available “in the coming months.”

In regards to the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus, feature wise these are just about the same as what we have seen with Verizon Wireless. The few exceptions to the previous statement include these versions offering support for a GSM network as opposed to CDMA and not having the Mobile Hotspot app. The network support is a must change due to the differences in the AT&T and Verizon networks and unfortunately the Mobile Hotspot app is a Verizon exclusive. And speaking of the difference in network, Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets has already taken the shot at Verizon by pointing out that you can talk and surf at the same time.

“Palm webOS plus included access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network and the ability to talk and surf the web at the same time is a powerful combination.”

Other features of the Pre Plus include a 3.1-inch display, 16GB of internal storage, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, accelerometer and integrated GPS. The same specs can also be repeated for the Pixi Plus, with two exceptions, the display on the Pixi comes in slightly smaller at 2.63-inches and the storage is 8GB. AT&T will also be offering a few of their own services including Address Book, YPMobile and Navigator.

Finally, the prices are just about where we would expect. The Pre Plus will set you back $149.99 and the Pixi Plus is $49.99. That said, I should mention that these prices come along with the required two-year agreement and after $100 mail-in-rebates. In other words expect to pay $249.99 and $149.99 to get out of the door.
