JVC Everio GZ-HM550 Camcorder Offers Bluetooth Connectivity

New HD Camcorder Allows For Geolocation, Remote Control Via Bluetooth, Full 1080p HD Resolutions, Too

JVC’s newest camcorder, the Everio GZ-HM550, has something you don’t see everyday in a camcorder – Bluetooth connectivity. Users must first install a free application from JVC onto their Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. From there, they can use their smartphone to provide geolocation, remote control and even for sound monitoring or recording.

If your smartphone has aGPS connectivity (and which one doesn’t these days), then you can use that to geo-tag your video and pictures taken with the JVC Everio GZ-HM550. In addition to adding this to the metadata, if you use a JVC supplied media center application, it can even create bookmarks for Google Earth showing you where you recorded your data.

As for remote control, it’s pretty simple. Using your smartphone with Bluetooth, the new GZ-HM550 will let you run the camcorder’s record, play and zoom features remotely. Useful, sure, but seems sort of dull when compared to those Bluetooth-enabled camcorder tripods that Sony showed off a few years ago.

With a Bluetooth-enabled headset, a user can monitor the sound being recorded by the GZ-HM550 or make remote voice recordings that the camcorder will add to the video. As for the camera itself, it’s pretty solid. The GZ-HM550 offers a 10.6-megapixel censor. It can take “Full HD” 1080p video or still photos at 9-megapixels. It offers a whopping 32GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded by an SD card slot.

It’s capable of 16x optical zoom and the camera also offers features like timelapse and super high speed recording modes (600 fps). JVC has included their Everio MediaBrowser suite for Windows which lets you sort, view and upload your recorded content to places like Facebook, YouTube.

The JVC Everio GZ-HM550 is now shipping with a price of $799.
