iPad Not to Show Any Love for Google’s Picasa; Steve Jobs’ Email to Customer Says So

Google Picasa Not Supported by iPad’s Photos App; Another Page in the Apple vs Google War Gets Written]

While we’re yet to see a full blown Apple vs Google war, it looks like both parties are getting ready for the confrontation. Another brief episode to suggest all of this involves Steve Jobs, a curious customer, iPads and Google’s Picasa.

Just a while ago we told you how Steve Jobs has personally answered to an email coming from a potential iPad customer based in Sweden in order to assure us that the iPhone won’t be able to share its 3G connection with the Wi-Fi iPad.

Now another customer has apparently asked Cupertino whether the iPad’s Photos app will be compatible with Google’s Picasa library format. Apple’s numero uno has answered personally to said email but this time he went above and beyond a simple “No!” further detailing on the matter: “but iPhoto on the Mac has much better Faces and Places features.”

Who can blame the guy, and the entire company for that matter, for making sure that its future customers stick to the default programs that come pre-installed on Apple’s gadgets? Especially considering that Google turned out to be one of Apple’s main rivals.

On the other hand each and every one of us should be at least given the impression that we do have a choice when it comes to selecting what software to use on our gadgets. Otherwise nasty things could happen and I am particularly thinking about how Microsoft was forced by the European Union to inform European customers (read: give them an actual choice) about all the alternatives available for browsing the Internet. Would it be such a big deal for Apple to let us use Picasa on the iPad too?

Isn’t it clear that Apple and Google do not love each other the way they used to? We’ll be waiting to see how this conflict escalates as these two giants are about to face each other on multiple battlefronts in the following months.
