The April 3 launch date for the iPad is now only a few weeks away and Apple has recently put the call out for app submissions. The news comes by way of an email that was sent out to registered developers and not only announces that Apple is looking for apps, but also gives a deadline of when those apps need to be submitted by in order to be included for the launch of the iPad App Store.

As per the announcement, developers will be able to submit apps beginning as of today and will have to submit the app no later than 5PM PDT on March 27. Of course, developers will be able to continue working on and submitting apps after that March 27 deadline, however any apps submitted after March 27 will not be considered for the initial launch of the iPad App Store.
Other items to point out from the email include that developers will need to be using the latest iPhone SDK in the development process. That means if you are developing an iPad app and not using iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 5 you may want to get that installed before you make any further progress on your app.
Finally, as you would expect, just because you submit your app before the deadline that does not guarantee entry. The same approval process that we have seen for iPhone apps will apply for iPad apps. In terms of this submission process, it looks like Apple will be giving developers an initial review after the app is submitted and then developers will be able to make any necessary changes so they can resubmit and hopefully get a final approval for entry into the App Store.
Judging from the launch of the iPhone App Store this seems like it may be a good opportunity for developers to get a little extra attention from the initial launch excitement. If nothing else this may serve as a notice for developers to get cracking. And if any of you are friends with a developer, don’t get super offended if they are ignoring your calls and emails for the next few weeks.
