Archos Announces New 13-inch Notebook
The Archos 13 straddles a fine line between netbook and ultraportable notebook. Archos released their first Archos 13 last June to some critical acclaim, and two weeks ago at the CeBIT show in Germany, they showed off a new generation of the Archos 13 notebook. It’ll keep the same 13-inch form factor, but will gain some improved specs.

The full model name of the new Archos 13 will be the “A13PS”. Archos is doing something a bit unusual by including the Atom D5120. The Atom D510 is a fine processor and currently the most powerful in the Atom series but it was intended for nettops that are plugged in all the time, not notebooks or netbooks. Archos hasn’t said anything, but I’d conjecture early on that the new Archos 13 will get horrible battery life.
That aside, while the new Archos 13 has the same screen size, the exterior of the computer has been redesigned. We don’t know much else about it, other than the fact that it will be running Windows 7 Home Premium. For comparison, last year’s Archos 13 tablet had an Intel Celeron ULV processor, 160GB hard drive, Intel integrated graphics, 2GB of RAM and a 10-cell battery. It came in at only 1.08 thick, making it one of the thinnest notebooks around.
The new Archos 13 tablet will come out next month. No word on pricing, but the original Archos 13 came out for $800. The Archos 13 was actually Archos’ first attempt at a netbook. The company was traditionally a MP3 player manufacturer, but with the convergence of MP3 players and mobile phones, Archos has been expanding into more computer-like markets.
