ZTE Bingo Qualcomm Smartphone Unveiled [New Smartphone From ZTE Offers Large Touchscreen, HSDPA Connectivity, Front-Facing Camera, Brew App Platform]
Chinese mobile phone company ZTE is going to be getting on board with Qualcomm’s BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) app development platform as they’ll soon be offering a new phone that will come with support for BREW. The new phone, known as the ZTE Bingo, is a slate-touchscreen style device with a lot of promising features.

ZTE is promoting the device as the world’s first ultra-slim, big-screen smartphone that features BREW support. BREW is pretty controversial. While it’s technically sound, the developer licenses that one has to purchase to publish BREW apps from Qualcomm are steep, which is a big disadvantage compared to app platforms like the iPhone and Android.
It looks moderately decent, and offers a 3.2-inch touchscreen and a 5-megapixel digital camera. The big attraction, aside from the BREW support, is the inclusion of a smoking 7.2Mbps HSDPA mode. To round out the phone’s features, it’ll also have aGPS support as well as a smaller forward-facing VGA camera for video conferencing.
No word on what OS will be running on this device, but ZTE mentioned something about “Google Apps” which all but confirms that it’ll be running Android. Special Facebook integration has also been promised, but that’s nothing new. ZTE promised an “all new dynamic UI” that “supports application development”. The ZTE Bingo will also have multi-touch support, as well.
Nothing yet on pricing or a release date. ZTE phones aren’t exactly common in the Western world, but this phone is shaping up to be one we’d like to see come across.
