Google Nexus One Heading to Sprint, Officially [Sprint to Launch CDMA Google Nexus One Android Smartphone before Verizon Wireless; We're in Awe!]
I’m happy to officially announce you that the Google Nexus One is the first Android handset that has caught the attention of the all the major carriers in the USA. That’s right, Sprint has joined everyone else and not only has it done so but it also officially announced its own CDMA Google Nexus One through a regular old-school press release.

T-Mobile is the first carrier of the Big Four that started selling Google’s phone and then it was quickly followed by Verizon, at least on paper. But then came the quiet launch of the AT&T/Rogers-compatible Google Nexus One and now, just when we all thought that Verizon would be next, we see Sprint, its CDMA archenemy, get ready to launch Google’s finest phone.
This is certainly a very interesting move when it comes to the mobile market: a more than hot phone, launched 75 days ago is almost available from all the Big Four American mobile operators. Will other follow Google’s example? It would definitely be interesting to see Apple do the same thing with its upcoming iPhone models. Maybe the iPhone 4G (fourth-gen) won’t be available in CDMA form but the iPhone 5G (fifth-gen) should definitely be ready to work with most networks in the U.S. and other markets especially since by then we’ll have 4G technologies in place.
On the other hand Google is reacting to the fact that it failed to sell an outstanding number of Nexus One handsets through T-Mobile alone. Those numbers should significantly increase once all carriers are on board as I am sure that more people will want to get the Nexus One. This Android handset is definitely one to follow as it looks like it still has a story to tell in the smartphone business.
So before we let you tell us exactly how you feel about the device, Sprint fans, we’ll have to come clean and admit the fact that we have no pricing details and actual arrival dates for the Sprint-bound CDMA Google Nexus One. Here’s what the HTC Nexus One press release says about the matter:
Nexus One, the first wireless phone sold through Google’s web store, is planned for Sprint’s 3G Mobile Broadband Network. Sprint will announce pricing and an exact availability date soon.
And then the press release takes a hit at both T-Mobile and AT&T in a there’s-a-map-for-that fashion:
Nexus One will benefit from Sprint’s 3G network with twice the coverage of AT&T and 10 times the coverage of T-Mobile, both based on square miles.
Besides the fact that it comes with CDMA support the HTC Nexus One is exactly the same phone we’ve talked about here on TFTS so there’s no point going through the specs again, is it folks? And we do expect similar prices to those available from T-Mobile especially since the HTC Nexus One will be sold directly from Google’s website, just like before. Oh and it’s pretty funny how they refer to the Google Nexus One as the HTC Nexus One, wouldn’t you agree? Are they trying to give it a whole new identity?
