New Microsoft 720p HD Webcams Revealed
Microsoft has announced a new series of HD webcams for desktop and laptop computers, delivering a new color correction technology called TrueColor. The new Microsoft LifeCam 5000, 5001 and 6000 models feature 720p video recording and the new color technology that maintains accurate color levels even in less-than-desirable conditions.

The new LifeCam line by Microsoft includes the MS LifeCam HD-5000, HD-5001 and the HD-6000 webcams. The LifeCam HD-5000 and HD-5001 are designed for desktops, different only in the color options with the former being black and the latter getting a white faceplate. The LifeCam HD-6000 is designed for laptops, featuring a connection clamp that allows for 360 angle viewing of the rotatable webcam head.
All three LifeCam webcams capture true 720p HD (a 1280×720 resolution) and use Microsoft’s TrueColor technology. This technology uses both hardware and software to adjust exposure and color tones to process the incoming image and balance its color levels for accurate imagery. The desktop-minded Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 and HD-5001 will begin shipping later this month for $50 each, while the laptop-oriented HD-6000 will begin shipping in May for $60.
