iPad Pre-Orders: Only for Fools & Idiots [We Count 120,000 of Them & the Number is Rising! (Rant)]
I am doing it again already, aren’t I? Talking about the iPad pre-orders and what not… but in my defense I’ll tell you that I am doing it for your own good, especially today. That way you’ll be able to make a totally informed decision when it comes to buying the device right now.

I have talked about the success of the whole iPad pre-order shopping spree yesterday and at the time I knew that unofficially 90,000 iPads amounting to $54 million have been sold in the first six hours of day one.
Now before getting you more information on the matter we will take a brief look at what some people are saying about iPad pre-orders. It would seem that iPad pre-orders are “for idiots only” and if that’s not politically correct for you then how about this one: “only a fool would pre-order an iPad.”
Now I’ll tell you that the unofficial “fools/idiots” count went all the way up to 120,000 according to unofficial numbers. Apple has not released pre-order reports yet but people are still unofficially counting the “votes” of confidence received from Apple customers in USA. Apple is now said to have sold 119,987 iPads in 19.5 hours which is not that bad, is it?
So yes, I’ll agree that the iPad is not the perfect gadget out there, but does anything like that exist? Is there a device we wouldn’t complain about? Because if there is one I’d like to have two of those pronto! And I’m not talking about Apple products here either but about all gadgets available to mankind so far. My point is that it doesn’t mean that those people that paid three weeks in advanced for their iPad are either fools or idiots for investing in a device they believe, or want to believe in.
You can always send the damned thing back or sell it if it doesn’t really live up to your expectations. But why not take advantage of a pre-order process, if you really want the device, and have the device conveniently delivered to your door. No matter what happens, Apple will have to bring you an iPad on April 3/5 since you did pay for it already. In case everything should go wrong production-wise than at least you have secured yours. Not that we believe any of those production issues-related rumors out there, do we, folks?
Are those people that pre-order games or other gadgets fools or idiots too for spending money in advanced for a product that hasn’t really been around yet? Or do you get into that exclusive category only for pre-ordering a device from a prominent gadget maker three weeks in advanced? Well, guess what, people are usually pre-ordering stuff from companies they trust, don’t they? Why aren’t those people that pre-order the nook also included in the list? Can I assume that the nook has already been declared better than the iPad?
So, fools and idiots out there, I’ll be waiting for you to hear more about your iPad and iPad pre-ordering experience. And no, I haven’t pre-ordered mine yet although I’m definitely toying with the idea.
[You've not pre-ordered yours yet, Chris? This surprises me - ed.]
