Celsius X VI II Remontage Papillon Phone Comes with Tourbillion Watch

$275,000 Celsius X VI II Handset/Watch Had Us at Tourbillion

The Celsius X VI II is one of the most interesting cellphone/watch concepts I’ve seen this year so far. And this baby will be actually launched at some point next week for prices starting at $275,000. I take it that’s the unlocked price of the device and I’ll assume that early adopters signing up for a two-year contract with the corresponding carriers will be able to save a couple hundred dollars off the MSRP price tag.

In other words, yes, the Celsius X VI II Remontage Papillon is a more than interesting mobile phone that also happens to act as a tourbillion watch. So what’s a tourbillion watch and why should we be amazed by its presence? In case you want to translate it tourbillion stands for “whirlwind” and the term has been used since the 18th century when talking about modern watches. The tourbillion is supposed to counter the effects of gravity and thus improve the accuracy of the watch. How it works you ask? Well basically you have the escapement, balance wheel and other inside components mounted in a rotating cage which moves continuously in order to fight gravity.

The Celsius X VI II is combining the tourbillion watch which comes with a “patented rewinding mechanism hidden within its hinge” with a flip cell phone. The phone, although it would lack smartphone-like features, will definitely impress your friends especially if they don’t have $275,000 to spend on one.

The device is made of 547 mechanical components and it basically fulfill the “the dream of a completely mechanical mobile phone: a phone in which every function will operate mechanically, solely through human energy.”

Working on the device was famous watchmaker Richard Mille and the Confrerie Horloger design team which must mean something to you in case you’re a true watch lover. The Celsius X VI II will be available at the BaselWorld German international watch and jewelry fair so go ahead and grab it if you really must have it.
