Hifiman HM-801 Offers A Portable Audiophile Experience
Audiophiles may scoff at the iPods and Zunes of the world, as the common portable media players of the day don’t deliver the sound quality they desire. The Hifiman High Fidelity Music Player HM-801 is designed as the audiophile alternative to mobile music devices, a portable media player with professional-grade audio components.

The Hifiman High Fidelity Music Player HM-801 is a compact, no-frills portable media player that focuses solely on delivering audiophile-grade sound. There is no video, no gaming and no app store on this device, just plenty of professional-grade components. That list of components includes a Burr-Brown PCM1704U DAC and a Burr-Brown OPA627 Op-Amp, both of which are normally found in the home theater gear of audiophiles. The HM-801 also features a modular headphone amp system, allowing a user to remove and upgrade the component that drives the headphones of their choice.
The Hifiman HM-801 does not include a built-in storage device, instead it uses 32GB SDHC cards to store a user’s music. The audio files a user will play on this device are much larger than MP3s, so it is likely an HM-801 user will carry multiple cards with them to maintain their mobile library of music.
The HM-801 is available now for the ripe price of $790 per unit. More often than not, you get what you pay for in the world of audiophile-grade music gear, and early reviews suggest that this price is clearly justified.
